MEET OUR TEAM

Edwina

Edwina

Edwina is the founder and CEO (Chief.Everything.Officer) of Birth Beat. A fancy way of saying that she wears lots of hats; mostly The Creating Awesome Online Courses Cap.
Ed has over 14 years experience as a midwife, neonatal intensive care nurse and emergency nurse. She’s delivered 100’s of babies and helped 1000’s of parents prepare for their best birth. She’s a proud mum of two and turns to mush in the presence of a baby.
Understanding the link between education and positive birth outcomes, Ed wanted to provide more education options in her hometown of Tamworth. So, she created the very first face-to-face Birth Beat class in 2012. Which she held in a loungeroom!
Since then, Birth Beat has come a long way. The sell-out success of the face-to-face classes (and having attendees from as far as Bourke and Sydney) led her to create The Ultimate Online Prenatal Program, which has revolutionised the way women and their birth partners prepare for birth.
Ed is always looking for ways to innovate and improve outcomes for expecting or new parents, babies and children. After many requests, she developed The Premium Baby and Child First Aid Program.

Jess

After taking a Birth Beat face-to-face class in 2016, Jess fell in love with the Birth Beat philosophy and started telling any pregnant mummas who would listen that they simply must-do one too!
When the opportunity to work at Birth Beat came along in 2018, she couldn’t believe her luck. Writing about babies, pregnancy and all things birth is the definition of a dream job in her books.
Jess has experience in both government and private sector, working across public relations communications and copywriting. She loves creating content for our gorgeous Birth Beat Tribe and writing online– although not so much when it’s about herself in the third person!
As the Marketing and Communications Manager, Jess helps to make sure that all our messaging and content is delivered in Birth Beat’s signature, non-judgey, easy to understand and super helpful way.

Meet Mikala - Birth Beat Team

Mikala

Meet Mikala, our Gen Z superstar who looks after all thing’s tech behind the scenes at Birth Beat HQ.
After graduating from high school in just 2018, Mikala joined Team Birth Beat as our Executive Assistant in 2019. Within days, she was showing 80s kids Jess and Ed a thing or two about software systems and social media!
Through a full-time traineeship with Birth Beat, Mikala completed her Certificate III in Business Services. In early 2020, she was awarded New England Regional Trainee of the Year.
Mikala is our ever-patient problem solver. She ensures everything in the back-end runs as smoothly as possible so that our Mumma’s have the best experience possible!
With an eye for detail and a knack for coding, website maintenance and email automation, Mikala is a total tech natural. We’d be lost without her.
